June - Dr James Alipius Goold, first Catholic Bishop of Melbourne visits the Sisters of Mercy Baggot Street convent in Dublin to request a community of sisters for Geelong.
July 13 - Permission granted, he confirms that Mother Xavier Maguire and five other sisters will be coming to establish a mission in Geelong.
September 5 - Mother Xavier , Sister Gabriel Sherlock, Sister Margaret Mulally, Sister Regis Manly, Sister Rose Lynch and novice Aloysius Ryan board the Ocean Chief at Liverpool bound for Melbourne.
November 28 - Mother Maguire and Sisters arrive in Melbourne and are met by Reverend Mother Ursula Frayne, Superior of the first Victorian Convent of Mercy in Fitzroy.
December 3 - The group of Sisters arrive in Geelong. Finding nothing prepared for their arrival, the sisters stayed at St Augustine's Orphanage at Newtown (now St Joseph's College).
